Are Vitamins one of the good ways to clear acne?

It would make sense that since we’re taught that acne can be caused by both nutritional unbalances and hormonal unbalances that vitamins to clear acnevitamins and minerals would be a good way to get rid of acne, but is this really the case?  Research has indicated that while there are no foods out there that singularly tend to cause acne, there are a lot of vitamins that you can use to get rid of it!

Before taking any vitamins make sure that taking supplements are not going to cause any problems with any medications that you may be taking and remember to take vitamins the way that is prescribed on the bottle.  Loading yourself with too many vitamins isn’t going to help things along any faster, just hurt.  It’s always best to take your vitamins during a meal so they get properly processed along with the rest of your food.

Specific Vitamins that Help Fight Acne

Vitamin A
Nutritionist agree that Vitamin A is one of the most important when it comes to skin health.  Vitamin A is one of the primary compounds for the maintenance of your skin and a lack of it can cause your skin to be dry, flaky, and heal slowly.  The best benefit you can get is from using Vitamin A topically.  It is readily absorbed into the skin and is known to make marked improvements in a variety of different skin ailments.    As far as foods go,  milk, liver, butter, egg, broccoli, mango etc are the chief sources of Vitamin A.

Vitamin B Complex
Vitamin B complex works on two levels.  First it is known to help give the skin a better tone and more elasticity.  Secondly, Vitamin B is known to naturally reduce stress and this in turn can help with acne problems.  The vitamin B complex includes Thiamine (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin (B3), Pantothenic Acid (B5), Pridoxine (B6), Biotin (B7), Folic Acid (B9), and Cyanocobalamin (B12). All the B vitamins have many benefits and when used in combination the best results are often achieved.

Vitamin B-1 (Thiamine)
Thiamine works as a digestive agent and helps to process food into the bloodstream.  This helps get nutrition to our skin where it is needed.  Vitamin B-1 is also a proven antioxidant.

Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin)
Oddly enough, while riboflavin does not directly improve acne, it is one of the few B Complex vitamins that are known to cause acne if you don’t have sufficient amounts of it.  Vitamin B-2 is known to help repair tissue damage and maintain good thyroid production which is where some of our hormones come from.

Vitamin B-5 (Pantothenic Acid )
Vitamin B-5 is known as the stress release vitamin because it does just that.  It helps improve the bodies resistance to stress, and it helps the body recover from stressful situations.  Not only can less stress serve as a way to help clear your acne but I think I can speak for all of us that it would be nice to have a little less stress in our life.

Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine)
Pyridoxine is an essential component of metabolizing proteins, fatty acids, and sugars.  It also is known for assisting the transfer of information between neurotransmitters regarding serotonin which helps you deal with stressful situations.

Vitamin E
Taking Vitamin E as a supplement using natural Vitamin E in 400 mg per day has been noted to reduce skin surface damage, wrinkles and improve skin texture.  It can also be used as a topical form and applied directly to acne problem areas for quick clearing treatment.

Vitamin K
Vitamin K fortifies the skin causing it to heal faster.  Vitamin K also has a profound effect on reducing circles under ones eyes.

Now I don’t recommend that you load up on a bunch of vitamins to make your acne go away, but if you find yourself lacking in one or more of the above vitamins, it can only help to try to increase your intake and see if that has a positive effect.  Remember that eating healthy is one of the top ways to clear acne!
